Spotlight on Women Series: Kristine Anderson- Booz Allen Hamilton

September 28, 2021 | Spotlight on Women

Kristine Anderson is the Executive Vice President of Booz Allen Hamilton, one of many women in leadership at the company. In this roll, she leads their civil business sector.

Kristine has a bachelor’s degree in neurobiology from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business. Using her background in health studies, Kristine began focusing on analytics and technology solutions to grow businesses, often using her expertise in health information technology (HIT) areas. For example, prior to her work at Booz Allen Hamilton, Kristine helped launch CareScience, a software solutions company focused on clinic systems and health information exchanges.

In addition to her work at Booz Allen Hamilton, Kristine also serves on the eHealth Initiative’s Board of Directors, on the Cost and Resource Use Standing Committee of the National Quality Forum, and the Quality and Safety Committee for the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.

When asked “What are three tips for managing and motivating your people?” Kristine had this to say:

“You have to genuinely care about them, and they have to know that. Listen to them, know who they are as people, not just employees. You also have to give them work that they care about. That plays into the recruitment part. Make sure you’re bringing on people who understand what the job is—not every nurse or pharmacist wants to be a management consultant. Last but not least, there has to be some element of fun. No one wants to just grind through the day.”

Attitudes like Kristine have a big impact on how employees feel about companies. For Booz Allen Hamilton, this is reflected in their recent listing in Forbes as one of the top employers for women.
